Mario Bellini and Chiara

We discovered the other side of Mario Bellini, besides that of designer and architect: his person inside his world, made of objects and manner. Internationally renowned architect and designer, Mario Bellini has collected 8 Compassi D’Oro during his lifetime while 25 of his works are on permanent display at the MoMa of New York. The Maestro tells us the story of Chiara, a lamp which is a worldwide icon of Italian design, in a short documentary curated by C41 and directed by director Michele Foti.⁣

“I remember grabbing a pair of scissors and a large piece of cardboard and starting to cut. I wanted the card to be cylinder-shaped but with a wider hat at the top that would reflect the light source, positioned at the base. And Chiara was born.”

Mario Bellini has been photographed by Alessandro Furchino Capria with his Chiara: this lamp has undergone numerous re-elaborations over the years, succeeding in always being a new and contemporary object.
